How to Draw a Lunar Lander

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a lunar lander in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the body.

Print

  1. Step 1: The body

Below the middle of your paper, draw a wide box with its 4 corners cut off: 8 sides.

Tip Leave lots of room below for the long legs.

  2. Step 2: Cabin on top

Start on the body top, near the left corner. Draw up, across with cut corners, and down to the body.

Tip Cut the 2 top corners off, just like the body.

  3. Step 3: Window and face

In the middle of the cabin, draw a big round window. Add 2 round eyes and a U smile.

  4. Step 4: Two long legs

From low on each side of the body, draw a thick stick leg slanting down and out to the bottom.

Tip The legs splay out wide, so the lander stands steady.

  5. Step 5: Round foot pads

On the end of each leg, draw a flat oval lying down, like a big dinner plate.

  6. Step 6: Antenna dish

From the cabin top, draw a line up to a bowl with a flat top. Add a stalk and ball.

  7. Step 7: Engine bell

Under the middle of the body, draw a small bucket shape, wider at the bottom.

  8. Step 8: The hatch

On the front of the body, draw a small square door with a short line across its middle.

  9. Step 9: Stars

Draw 3 little 5-point stars in the sky: 1 high on the left and 2 on the right.

Tip Draw a star in one go: up, down, across, up, down.

  10. Step 10: Moon ground

From near the left edge, draw a bumpy line under the pads to near the right. Add 3 craters.

  11. Step 11: Pink cheeks, yellow body

Go over your lines. Colour 2 pink cheeks. Colour the body yellow around the hatch, and the bell and stars.

  12. Step 12: Grey cabin

Colour the cabin grey around the window, so the window stays white. Colour the hatch grey.

  13. Step 13: Grey legs and pads

Colour the 2 legs, the foot pads and the dish grey. Your lander is on the Moon!
