How to Draw a King Cake
Draw a king cake in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a plate.
Step 1: A plate
Below the middle, draw a big flat oval plate, most of the way across the paper.
Step 2: The cake top
Over the plate, draw a big wide oval lying down, almost as wide as the plate: the cake top.
Tip A king cake is a fat ring of bread, so its top looks like a wide oval.
Step 3: The hole
In the middle, draw a small flat oval hole. Inside it, draw a curve arching up from end to end.
Tip Below the curve you can see the plate through the hole.
Step 4: The thick side
From the big oval's left end, curve round under the cake and up to its right end.
Tip Make it round and puffy like bread, not straight like a tin.
Step 5: Twist lines
Start on the hole. Draw 3 slanted curves out to the front edge, like the twists of a braid.
Step 6: More twists
Draw 3 more slanted curves from the hole to the back edge, so the ring has 6 bands.
Step 7: Icing drips
From the left end, draw an icing line just under the front edge, with 3 drips, to the right end.
Step 8: The table
Draw a long table line under the plate, just touching its bottom.
Step 9: Yellow bands
Go over your lines. Colour the band at each end yellow, and leave the icing white.
Step 10: Sky plate
Colour the plate sky blue around the cake, and the bit of plate you see through the hole.
Step 11: Tan bread
Colour the side of the cake tan around the white icing, and the wall inside the hole too.
Step 12: Green bands
Colour the bottom right band and the top left band green.
Step 13: Purple bands
Colour the last 2 bands purple, bottom left and top right. Your king cake is done!
