How to Draw a Harpy

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a harpy in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top, in the middle, draw an egg head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave lots of room at the sides for the wings.

  2. Step 2: Big eyes

Below the middle of the head draw 2 big oval eyes. Add a black dot, a shine and a lash.

Tip Leave a tiny white dot in each black dot. That is the shine.

  3. Step 3: Nose and smile

Draw a tiny U nose between the eyes. Add a wide smile under it and 2 eyebrows.

  4. Step 4: The hair

Draw hair over the top with 3 soft bumps for the fringe. Add a round bob beside each cheek.

Tip Rub out the top of the head inside the hair.

  5. Step 5: Feather collar

Under the chin draw a collar of 5 round feather bumps, from one side of the neck to the other.

  6. Step 6: The body

Start under the collar's left end. Draw a big C down to the bottom middle. Do the right to match.

Tip The body is an egg, fattest near the bottom.

  7. Step 7: Two big wings

From each shoulder draw a wing: up and out, round the tip, then 5 feather bumps back to the body.

Tip A harpy has wings instead of arms. Make both the same size.

  8. Step 8: Wing feathers

Start on each shoulder and draw a curve along the wing. From each dip draw a line up to it.

  9. Step 9: Tummy feathers

On the tummy draw 3 little U's side by side, then 2 below in the gaps.

  10. Step 10: Bird feet

Draw 2 bird feet, 3 round toes each. Start a ground line at the left, stop at the right.

Tip Each leg starts on the body and the toes rest on the ground.

  11. Step 11: Peach and yellow

Colour the face peach and the feet yellow. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Cream and tan

Colour the feather collar cream and the body light brown.

  13. Step 13: Ginger hair

Colour the hair orange, on top and beside the cheeks.

  14. Step 14: Brown wings

Go over your lines. Colour both wings brown. Your harpy is ready to fly!
