How to Draw a Hanging Plant
Draw a hanging plant in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the basket rim.
Step 1: The basket rim
In the middle of your paper draw a wide flat box, as wide as your hand and a finger tall.
Step 2: The bowl
Start under the rim near the left end. Draw a big round bowl like a smile, up to the rim.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the bowl draw 2 big egg eyes, an eye-width apart. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a shine.
Step 4: A big smile
Leave a little gap under the eyes and draw a wide U smile, ends turning up.
Step 5: Ceiling and hook
Draw a ceiling line across the top. From its middle draw a short line down to a small ring.
Step 6: Three strings
Start at the bottom of the ring. Draw 3 straight strings down to the rim: left end, middle, right end.
Step 7: A mound of leaves
Start on the left end of the rim. Draw 6 soft bumps up and over to the right end.
Step 8: Trailing vines
Start under each end of the leaves. Draw a wavy vine over the rim's corner and down past the basket.
Tip Let the vines hang down in a soft wiggle, not stick out like legs.
Step 9: Left vine leaves
Along the left vine draw 4 little teardrop leaves, swapping sides as you go. Round ends sit on the vine.
Step 10: Right vine leaves
Draw 4 little teardrop leaves along the right vine the same way, swapping sides as you go.
Step 11: Pink cheeks, ginger basket
Colour 2 pink cheeks under the eyes. Then colour the basket and rim ginger, going around the eyes and cheeks.
Tip Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Green leaves
Colour the mound and all the vine leaves green. Go over your lines and your hanging plant is done!
