How to Draw a Grasshopper Jumping
Draw a grasshopper jumping in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head up high.
Step 1: Head up high
Near the top right of your paper draw a small egg lying on its side for the head.
Tip The grasshopper is jumping, so its head is high up.
Step 2: Two big eyes
On the head draw 2 big egg eyes, an eye apart. Add a black dot and white shine in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide open smile: a flat line with a U under it. Add round cheeks.
Step 4: Long feelers
Start on top of the head. Draw 2 long thin feelers sweeping up to the right.
Step 5: Long leaning body
Behind the head draw a long egg sloping down to the left, like a fat sausage sliding downhill.
Step 6: Leaf wing
Along the top of the body draw a long narrow leaf for the wing, with a line down its middle.
Step 7: Tummy rings
Draw 4 curved lines across the body, a thumb apart. Skip over the wing.
Step 8: Huge jumping leg
From behind the body draw a fat thigh out to a knee, then a thin shin to a bent foot.
Tip The jumping thigh is fat, like a chicken drumstick.
Step 9: Other jumping leg
Just below the first leg draw the other huge leg, tucked behind it, with its own bent foot.
Step 10: Small legs tucked in
Under the body near the head draw 2 short bent legs folded forward, each with a tiny bent foot.
Step 11: Ground and grass
Draw a ground line across the bottom of the paper. Add 2 small grass tufts on it.
Step 12: Wing and cheeks
Go over your lines. Colour the wing light green and the cheeks pink. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Green grasshopper
Colour the head, body and legs green, around the wing, cheeks and mouth. Colour the mouth red.
