How to Draw a Glasswing Butterfly
Draw a glasswing butterfly in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: egg head.
Step 1: Egg head
A bit above the middle of your paper, draw a big soft egg head, wider than tall.
Tip Leave room on both sides for the wings.
Step 2: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes a finger apart. Add dots and shines.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Start under the left eye. Draw a wide U smile and stop under the right eye. Add round cheeks.
Step 4: The body
Start under the left of the head. Draw a long teardrop body down to a point, and back up.
Step 5: Three stripes
Across the tummy, draw 3 little smile curves, one under the other, from edge to edge.
Step 6: Long pointy top wings
Start on the chest. Draw a long pointy wing up past the head, back to the tummy. Same right.
Tip Longer and pointier than a garden butterfly's wing, like a long leaf.
Step 7: Small bottom wings
Start under the left top wing. Draw a small egg wing hanging down, back to the tummy. Same right.
Step 8: Curly antennae
Start on top of the head. Draw a long thin lazy S up to a small ball. Same right.
Step 9: Glass windows
Inside each wing, draw a window, leaving a border. Draw a curve across each top tip, from edge to edge.
Tip The middle of a glasswing's wing is see-through, like a window.
Step 10: Glass and orange tips
Colour the windows light blue, like glass. Colour the wing tips orange.
Step 11: Pink cheeks, brown borders
Colour the cheeks pink. Colour the head, body, antenna balls and wing borders brown, around them. Leave the eyes white.
