How to Draw a Discus Fish
Draw a discus fish in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round disc body.
Step 1: Round disc body
Start near the right. Draw one big round body with a tiny snout on the left, back to the start.
Tip As tall as it is long. Leave the right end open for the tail.
Step 2: Eye and mouth
Behind the snout draw one big round eye with a black dot. From the snout draw a short mouth line.
Step 3: Small fan tail
From the back's end draw a small fan out and back to the tummy. Close its base with a line.
Step 4: Fins all round
Start on the back above the eye. Draw one long fin over the top, stopping before the tail. Same underneath.
Tip The fins wrap almost all the way round, like a plate.
Step 5: Gill and side fin
Behind the eye draw a curved gill from above to below it. Add a fan fin at its lower end.
Tip Keep the fin small and point it back toward the tail, with 2 short lines in it.
Step 6: Wavy stripes
Behind the side fin draw 4 wavy stripes up and down, each from under the back to above the tummy.
Tip Never straight, never touching the outline.
Step 7: Bubbles
Above the snout draw 3 bubbles floating up, small, bigger, then biggest at the top.
Step 8: Sand and seaweed
Draw a wavy sand line across the bottom from edge to edge. Stand tall wiggly seaweed leaves on it.
Step 9: Pink cheek, orange fish
Colour a pink cheek dot, then the body orange around the cheek and side fin. Leave the eye white.
Step 10: Red fins, sandy floor
Colour the tail and all the fins red, and colour the floor under the sand line sandy.
Step 11: Blue bubbles
Colour the bubbles light blue and the seaweed green. Go over your lines and your discus is done!
