How to Draw a King Vulture
Draw a king vulture in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: small bald head.
Step 1: Small bald head
Near the top left of your paper draw a small round head. Leave lots of room under and behind it.
Step 2: Hooked bill and wattle
Start high on the face. Draw a hooked bill to the chin, a mouth line and a wattle on top.
Tip A vulture's bill is a big hook with a bumpy wattle on top.
Step 3: One big eye
A finger behind the bill draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot, leaving a white shine.
Step 4: Neck and fluffy ruff
Start under the head. Draw 2 short neck lines, a head long, ending at a soft bumpy ruff.
Tip King vultures wear a grey ruff of fluffy feathers like a collar.
Step 5: Plump body
Start at the bottom of the back neck line. Draw a big oval body, ending at the front neck line.
Step 6: Cloak wing
Start on the back behind the ruff. Draw a big wing down to a low point, ending at the shoulder.
Tip The wing covers the back like a dark cloak. The tummy stays white.
Step 7: Short tail
Under the wing tip draw a short pointed tail sticking out and down from the rump.
Step 8: Two legs
Under the tummy draw 2 short legs, one a hand behind the other. Each ends in 3 short round toes.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Start at the left edge. Draw a ground line under the feet to the right edge. Add grass tufts.
Step 10: Yellow bill, orange head
Colour the hooked bill yellow. Colour the bald head and neck orange, leaving the eye white.
Step 11: Grey ruff, red wattle
Colour the fluffy ruff grey and the wattle knob red. Leave the body white like the paper.
Step 12: Dark wing and legs
Colour the cloak wing, tail and legs dark grey, pressing lightly so the lines show.
