How to Draw a Coonhound
Draw a coonhound in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top draw a big round head, a little wider at the cheeks. It is half the dog.
Tip Leave room underneath for the body and legs.
Step 2: Long floppy ears
Start at the top left of the head. Draw a long floppy ear down and back to the cheek.
Tip Draw the same ear on the other side.
Step 3: Eyes and eyebrow spots
Halfway down the head draw 2 big eyes with black dots. Add a small oval spot above each.
Tip Two eyebrow spots are a coonhound mark.
Step 4: Long snout and nose
Under the eyes draw a big oval snout with a black triangle nose at the top.
Step 5: Smile and tongue
From the nose draw a line down, ending in a w smile. Hang a small tongue under it.
Step 6: The body
Start where each ear touches the cheek. Draw a big C down each side. Join the ends underneath.
Tip The body line hides behind the ears at the top.
Step 7: The chest
Start under the left cheek. Draw a big U down the chest, back up to stop under the right cheek.
Step 8: Front legs
From the chest draw 2 front legs, narrower above round paws, back to the chest. Add 2 toe lines each.
Step 9: Back paws and tail
Draw a hill paw at each bottom corner. From the right hip draw a tail curving up to a point.
Tip The tail is fat at the hip and thin at the tip.
Step 10: The ground
Draw a long ground line across under all 4 paws.
Step 11: Speckles
Dot 5 small dark speckles on the chest. They are the ticks in the coat.
Tip Keep them few and small, spread out.
Step 12: Pink and tan
Go over your lines. Colour the tongue pink. Colour the snout and the 2 eyebrow spots tan.
Step 13: Light blue coat
Colour the head, chest, legs and paws light blue, around the snout. Keep the eyes white.
Step 14: Dark blue ears
Colour the 2 ears, the sides of the body and the tail dark blue. Your coonhound is done!
