How to Draw a Constellation
Draw a constellation in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big star.
Step 1: The big star
On the right of your paper, near the middle, draw one big 5-point star.
Step 2: Two big eyes
In the middle of the big star draw 2 egg eyes, one eye-width apart, with black dots and white shines.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile from eye to eye, and a tiny oval cheek beside each end.
Step 4: The bowl stars
Draw 3 small stars making a tilted box with the big one: one up left, one further left, one below.
Tip These 4 stars are the bowl of the Big Dipper, a sky saucepan.
Step 5: The handle stars
From the bowl's top left star draw 3 more small stars stepping away to the left.
Step 6: Join the handle
Join the handle stars with straight lines. Start on the far left star, stop on the next, and so on.
Step 7: Join the bowl
Join the 4 bowl stars with straight lines all the way round, so the bowl is a tilted box.
Step 8: Three sparkles
Draw 3 tiny 4-point sparkles in the empty sky, well away from the stars and lines.
Step 9: A sleeping hill
Start at the left edge of your paper. Draw a long gentle hill right across to the right edge.
Step 10: A little pine
On the hill under the handle, zigzag a little pine tree up 3 tiers to a point and back down.
Step 11: Pink and yellow
Colour the cheeks pink, then the 7 stars and 3 sparkles yellow around the face. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Green tree
Colour the little pine tree green.
Step 13: Navy hill
Colour the hill navy, like night grass. Go over your lines and your constellation is twinkling!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a constellation, drawn by you.
