How to Draw a Dancing Cobra

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a dancing cobra in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Round head

Near the top, in the middle, draw a round head, a little wider than it is tall.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

In the middle of the head, draw 2 big oval eyes. Colour a black dot in each.

Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.

  3. Step 3: Smile and tongue

Under the eyes, draw a wide smile. From its middle, draw a tongue down, split into 2 points.

Tip A big smile makes the cobra friendly.

  4. Step 4: Wide hood

Start beside the top of the head. Curve out wide, then in to a thin neck. Match the other side.

Tip The hood is widest just below the chin.

  5. Step 5: Hood diamond

In the middle of the hood, under the tongue, draw 1 big diamond with 4 points.

Tip Keep the diamond in the middle, away from the edges of the hood.

  6. Step 6: Round basket

Leave a gap below the neck. Draw an oval rim, then fat round sides down to a flat bottom.

Tip The basket is wider than the hood.

  7. Step 7: Swaying body

Start at each side of the neck. Draw 2 lines swaying right, then left, down into the basket.

Tip Keep the 2 lines the same distance apart, like a ribbon in an S.

  8. Step 8: Tail tip

Start inside the basket on the right. Draw a small pointed tail tip poking up and out.

  9. Step 9: Woven basket

Draw 2 curved lines across the basket. Add short brick lines: 3 above, 2 between, 3 below.

  10. Step 10: Music notes

Draw a ground line under the basket. Draw 2 music notes, 1 on each side of the cobra.

Tip Each note is an oval, a tall stick and a little flag.

  11. Step 11: Yellow and red

Colour the diamond on the hood yellow. Colour the tongue red.

  12. Step 12: Light brown basket

Colour the outside of the basket light brown.

  13. Step 13: Green cobra

Colour the head, hood, body and tail tip green, around the diamond and tongue. Leave the eyes white.

  14. Step 14: Dark hole, black notes

Colour inside the rim dark brown, around the cobra. Colour the 2 note ovals black.
