How to Draw Coal
Draw coal in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the lump.
Step 1: The lump
In the middle of your paper draw a big chunky lump with corners, a flat top and a flat bottom.
Tip Coal is a broken chunk: corners, not round bumps.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Draw 2 big egg eyes below the middle of the lump. Add a black dot and a shine in each.
Step 3: A big smile
Leave a little gap under the eyes and draw a wide U smile.
Step 4: Facet lines
From each top corner draw a straight line down to the bottom, so the lump has flat sides.
Step 5: Shiny glints
Inside the left side draw a long skinny leaf for a glint, and a small dot under it.
Step 6: The ground
Draw a long ground line under the lump, from side to side.
Step 7: Little lumps
On the ground draw a small chunky lump on the right, and a tinier one on the left.
Step 8: Sparkles
Draw a little 4-point sparkle star up to the left of the coal and another up to the right.
Step 9: White glints
Colour the 2 glint shapes white so they shine against the dark coal.
Step 10: Pink cheeks, yellow sparkles
Give the coal 2 pink cheeks and colour the sparkles yellow.
Step 11: Black coal
Colour the coal and little lumps black, around the glints and cheeks. Leave the eyes white. Your coal is done!
Tip Press softly so your lines still show.
