How to Draw a Chimera
Draw a chimera in 19 steps, about 14 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: lion face.
Step 1: Lion face
A little left of the middle of your paper draw a fat egg face with a flat chin.
Tip Leave room on the right for the goat and on the left for the snake.
Step 2: Ears and eyes
Draw a rainbow ear on each top corner. On the face's middle draw 2 big egg eyes with black dots.
Step 3: Cloud mane
Round the face draw a bumpy cloud mane from ear to ear under the chin, and a hill on top.
Tip Big hills at the sides, small under the chin. It goes behind the ears.
Step 4: Nose and cheek pads
Under the eyes draw a small black triangle nose, point down. Under it draw 2 plump oval cheek pads, touching.
Step 5: Lion smile
Start under the left pad. Draw a shallow smile, dipping a little in the middle. Stop under the right pad.
Step 6: Ground and body
Draw a long ground line near the bottom. From the mane draw a plump pear body down to it.
Tip The sides bulge out into round hips.
Step 7: Front legs
Start on the mane. Draw 2 front legs side by side down to mitten paws, sharing one middle line.
Tip Each leg gets thinner at the wrist, then puffs out into a round paw.
Step 8: Back paws
Start low on each body side. Draw a little hill paw behind the front paw, ending on the ground.
Step 9: Goat head
High on the right draw a long egg head, narrow at the chin. Add a leaf ear on each side.
Tip The goat head is smaller than the lion face.
Step 10: Horns and beard
On top of the goat head draw 2 curved horns, leaning apart. Under the chin draw a pointed beard.
Step 11: Goat face
Add 2 egg eyes and a black nose. Start under the nose, draw a short line, stop at a smile.
Step 12: Goat neck
From under the goat head draw 2 curved lines down to the lion's shoulder, wider apart at the bottom.
Tip The neck bends like a banana and tucks in behind the mane.
Step 13: Snake head
On the left, level with the lion's ears, draw a small round snake head with 2 eyes and a smile.
Step 14: Snake tail
From under the snake head draw 2 lines down, round and along the ground to the lion's back paw.
Tip The snake gets fatter towards the lion.
Step 15: Toes and inner ears
Draw 2 toe curves in each front paw and one in each back paw. Add a rainbow in each ear.
Step 16: Sand lion
Colour the lion's face, ears, body, legs and paws sand, around its cheek pads and inner ears.
Tip Leave the eyes and the mane white for now.
Step 17: Cream goat, grey horns
Colour the goat's head, ears, beard and neck cream, and its 2 horns grey. Leave the eyes white.
Step 18: Peach and ginger
Colour the lion's cheek pads and inner ears peach. Colour the mane ginger, around the ears.
Step 19: Green snake
Colour the snake green from its head to the lion's paw. Leave its eyes white. Your chimera is done!
