How to Draw a Chameleon Catching a Fly
Draw a chameleon catching a fly in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: helmet head.
Step 1: Helmet head
Draw a head like a helmet: a point at the back, a snout at the front with an open mouth.
Tip The open mouth is a sideways V cut into the snout.
Step 2: Big round eye
Draw a big circle on the head. Draw a smaller circle inside, with a black dot and a shine.
Tip The dot sits to the left: the chameleon is watching a fly.
Step 3: Egg body
Start behind the head point. Draw a big egg body, round at the back, and stop under the chin.
Step 4: Two bent legs
Start on the tummy. Draw a bent leg down to 2 round toes and stop on the tummy. Do 2.
Step 5: The branch
Draw a long thin branch under the toes, with round ends. The toes sit over it.
Step 6: Curly tail
Start at the back of the body. Draw a fat tail down past the branch, curling into a swirl.
Tip The tail gets thinner all the way to the middle of the swirl.
Step 7: The fly
Far on the left draw an oval fly with a small round head and 2 wings on top.
Step 8: Long tongue
Start in the mouth. Draw a long tongue to the fly, with a round ball on the end.
Tip Two lines side by side, then a ball that touches the fly.
Step 9: Three stripes
Draw 3 long bean shapes on the body, leaning the same way.
Step 10: Yellow and pink
Colour the eye ring and the 3 stripes yellow. Colour the tongue pink. Leave the eye white.
Step 11: Green chameleon
Colour the head, body, legs and tail green, around the yellow.
Step 12: Brown and grey
Colour the branch brown, around the toes. Colour the fly grey and leave its wings white.
