How to Draw a Caped Hero

Step 1: Egg head

Near the top, in the middle, draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave most of the page below for the body and legs.

Step 2: The face

Below the middle, draw 2 oval eyes with black dots. Add a tiny nose, a smile and eyebrows.

Step 3: Swept hair

From the left side of the head, draw hair over the top to the right side. Sweep a fringe back.

Tip Keep the fringe well above the eyebrows. Rub out the head line under the hair.

Step 4: Neck and cape

Draw 2 neck lines under the chin. From beside the neck, draw a cape down to a wavy hem.

Tip Come back up to the other side of the neck. The cape hangs behind the body.

Step 5: The suit

Start low on the left shoulder. Draw round shoulders over to the right. Add sides and a waist below.

Tip Leave a gap under each shoulder for an arm.

Step 6: Belt and bolt

Just above the waist, rule a belt line from side to side. On the chest, draw a zigzag lightning bolt.

Step 7: Arms

From each shoulder and armpit, draw 2 arm lines that bend a little at the elbow. Stop at the wrist.

Tip Each arm gets narrower toward the wrist.

Step 8: Fists

At each wrist, draw a round fist a little wider than the arm. Add a curved thumb line on top.

Tip Keep the fists small and round.

Step 9: Legs

Start at the waist corners. Draw 2 legs down, with an upside-down U between them. Stop where the boots go.

Tip The legs get narrower toward the boots.

Step 10: Boots and ground

Under each leg, draw a tall boot with the toe pointing out. Rule the ground under the boots.

Tip Add a heel block at the back of each boot.

Step 11: Peach skin

Colour the face, neck and fists peach, and the cheeks pink. Leave the eyes white.

Step 12: Yellow bolt, green suit

Colour the bolt, belt and boots yellow. Colour the suit, arms and legs green around the bolt and belt.

Step 13: Purple cape, black hair

Colour the cape purple and the hair black. Go over your lines, and your hero is done!
