How to Draw Braids
Draw braids in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top of your paper draw a big egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.
Tip Make it big: the hair needs room on top.
Step 2: Big eyes
Below the middle of the head draw 2 tall oval eyes. Colour a black dot in each, with a shine.
Step 3: Nose, smile and brows
Draw a tiny U nose below the eyes and a wide smile under it. Add an eyebrow over each eye.
Step 4: Fringe
Start on the left side of the head, level with the eyebrows. Curve across the forehead, stopping on the right.
Step 5: Top of the hair
Start at the fringe's left end. Draw a big rainbow bulging past the head, down to the fringe's right end.
Tip The hair is bigger than the head: it puffs out at the sides.
Step 6: Hair over the ears
From the top left of the rainbow draw hair down past the cheek to the jaw. Do the right too.
Step 7: 2 braids
Under each side piece draw a braid down to the shoulder: a chain of 4 fat beads, getting smaller.
Step 8: Bead lines
Across each braid, at each pinch between 2 beads, draw a little smile curve from edge to edge.
Step 9: Ties and tassels
Draw a small band at the bottom of each braid. From it zigzag down to 3 points and back up.
Step 10: Neck and shirt
Draw 2 neck lines under the chin. From each, slope a shoulder down and out. Add a U collar.
Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Colour the cheeks pink, then the face and neck peach around them. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Yellow shirt, red ties
Colour the shirt yellow and the hair ties red.
Step 13: Brown hair
Colour the hair, the braids and the tassels brown. Go over your lines and you are done.
