How to Draw Blowing Out Candles

Step 1: Puffed-cheek head

On the left draw a big egg head. Push the bottom right out into one round, puffed cheek.

Tip Leave the right side of your paper empty for the cake.

Step 2: The face

Draw 2 oval eyes with black dots, a tiny nose, and a small round mouth by the puffed cheek.

Tip A small round mouth shows the child is blowing.

Step 3: Short hair

Start above the right eye. Draw hair over the top and down the back, then a wavy fringe back.

Tip Rub out the head line inside the hair.

Step 4: The cake

Draw a flat oval on the right. Start on its left end, draw a deep U, stop on its right.

Tip The oval is the top of the cake and the U is its side.

Step 5: Dripping icing

Start on the left side of the cake. Draw 5 drips of icing across, stop on the right side.

Step 6: Three candles

Stand 3 tall candles with round tops on the cake.

Tip Rub out the cake line inside each candle.

Step 7: Leaning flames

On each candle draw a flame like a teardrop, leaning away from the child.

Tip The flames lean because the breath is pushing them.

Step 8: Puff of air

Start beside the mouth. Draw 2 short curved lines towards the candles and stop before the first one.

Step 9: Table edge

Start at the left and draw a line across to the cake. Carry on from the other side.

Step 10: Shoulders

From under the chin draw sloping shoulders down to the table on both sides. Add a curved neckline.

Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour 2 pink cheeks. Colour the face and neck peach. Leave the eyes white.

Step 12: Yellow cake, orange flames

Colour the cake below the icing yellow. Colour the 3 flames orange.

Step 13: Pink icing, blue candles

Colour the icing pink. Colour the 3 candles and the child's top blue.

Step 14: Brown hair and table

Go over your lines. Colour the hair dark brown and the table light brown.
