How to Draw a Birthday Cake
Draw a birthday cake in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: bottom cake.
Step 1: Bottom cake
Start left of the middle. Draw a big plump slab, wider than tall, and stop back at the start.
Step 2: Top cake and candles
Start a third in on the top edge. Draw a smaller slab up, over, down to it. Add 3 candles.
Step 3: Light the candles
Start on top of each candle. Draw a short wick up and stop. Sit a fat teardrop flame on it.
Tip Round at the bottom, pointy on top, wider than the candle.
Step 4: Cake stand
From the left of the cake draw an oval plate, up to the right side. Add a stem and foot.
Step 5: Top icing
Start on the top cake's edge at the left. Draw 4 fat U drips, stopping at the right shoulder.
Step 6: Bottom icing
Start on the bottom cake's edge near the left shoulder. Draw 6 fat U drips, stopping near the right.
Tip Longest at the ends, shorter in the middle.
Step 7: Candle stripes
On each candle draw 2 short slanted lines close together, from the left edge to the right edge.
Step 8: Confetti
Draw 6 bits of confetti on the bottom cake: tilted ovals and dots. Add 4 more in the air.
Tip Keep them tiny, spread out, and off the lines.
Step 9: Yellow cake
Colour both cakes yellow below the icing, around the confetti, and each flame's little middle. Leave the candles white.
Step 10: Pink icing, orange flames
Colour the icing, both cake tops and the candle stripes pink. Colour each flame orange around its middle.
Step 11: Blue stand and confetti
Colour the stand sky blue and the confetti red and blue. Go over all your lines.
