How to Draw a Beluga

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a beluga in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round forehead.

Print

  1. Step 1: Round forehead

Near the top left, draw 1 big round head, a little taller than wide, bulging out at the top.

Tip That big bulgy forehead is what makes it a beluga.

  2. Step 2: Tiny snout

Low on the front of the head, draw a small round bump poking forward like a thumb tip.

  3. Step 3: Smile and eye

Behind the snout, draw a short upside-down rainbow smile. Above it, draw a big round eye with a black dot.

Tip Belugas always look like they are smiling.

  4. Step 4: Smooth back

From the back of the head, draw 1 long line sloping down. Stop well before the right side.

Tip No fin on the back: it is one smooth slope.

  5. Step 5: Belly

Start at the chin. Draw a deep belly curve rising to the right. Stop just below the back's end.

  6. Step 6: Flipper

Behind the eye, draw a leaf flipper poking out of the belly, pointing down and back.

  7. Step 7: Tail

From the back's end, curve the tail up into 2 sideways flukes, then back down to the belly's end.

Tip Whale flukes point out to the sides, not up and down like a fish tail.

  8. Step 8: Water

Draw wave bumps across the paper at tummy height. Stop at the whale's lines and just before the edges.

Tip The beluga swims in the sea, so its tummy and flipper sit in the water.

  9. Step 9: Chunky iceberg

On the right, draw a chunky iceberg sitting in the water. Add a wavy snow line near its top.

  10. Step 10: Bubbles

In the water under the tail, draw 3 round bubbles rising up: big at the bottom, small at the top.

  11. Step 11: Colour it white

Go over your lines. Leave the whale, eye, bubbles and snowy top white. Add a pink cheek under the eye.

  12. Step 12: Blue water

Colour the iceberg pale blue under the snow. Colour the sea blue to the bottom, around the whale and bubbles.
