How to Draw a Barrel
Draw a barrel in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the lid.
Step 1: The lid
Above the middle of your paper draw a wide flat oval, nearly a hand wide, for the barrel's top.
Step 2: The fat barrel
From each oval end draw a side bulging OUT like a belly, stopping near the bottom. Join with a curve.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the front of the barrel, below the middle, draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile, eye to eye, and a small flat cheek out beside each end.
Step 5: Top hoops
A finger under the lid draw a curve across the barrel, and another close under it for a hoop band.
Step 6: Bottom hoops
A finger above the bottom draw the same 2 curves across the barrel for the bottom hoop band.
Step 7: The planks
Between the hoop bands draw a bowed line down each side of the barrel, beside the cheeks, for plank edges.
Step 8: Lid planks
Across the lid draw 2 lines side to side, one above the other, so the lid is made of planks.
Step 9: Ground and shadow
Draw a flat oval shadow under the barrel, then a ground line from each end out to the side.
Step 10: Tan lid, pink cheeks
Colour the lid light tan and the cheeks pink.
Step 11: Wood barrel
Colour the barrel wood brown, around the cheeks and the hoop bands, and the shadow grey. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Slate hoops
Colour the 2 hoop bands slate grey. Go over your lines, and your barrel is ready to roll!
