How to Draw an Axe
Draw an axe in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the axe head.
Step 1: The axe head
Near the top, draw the head: small and flat on the left, a wide curved edge on the right.
Tip The top and bottom of the head match, like a fan.
Step 2: The long handle
From under the head, draw 2 long lines down that spread into a wide foot. Join them at the bottom.
Tip Start near the head's flat left end.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a big black dot in each.
Tip Leave a tiny white dot in each eye for a shine.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes, draw a U smile from eye to eye, and a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Handle top
Start on the head's top, above the handle. Draw a small bump up, across and back down to the head.
Step 6: The sharp edge
Inside the head, draw a curved line beside the round edge, from the top down to the bottom.
Tip This thin strip is the part that cuts.
Step 7: Wood grain
On the handle, draw a short line down from the head and a short line up from the ground.
Step 8: The ground
Draw a ground line under the handle, from the left side across to the right side.
Step 9: A tree stump
On the right, draw a flat oval. From each end, draw a side down to the ground, flaring out.
Tip An axe chops wood, so a stump sits beside it.
Step 10: Tree ring
Inside the stump's oval, draw one smaller oval for a tree ring.
Step 11: Pink and tan
Go over your lines. Colour the cheeks pink and the top of the stump tan.
Step 12: Grey edge, wood handle
Colour the sharp edge light grey. Colour the handle and its top bump wood brown.
Step 13: Slate head, brown stump
Colour the head slate around the cheeks, leaving the eyes white. Colour the stump's sides brown.
Tip Slate is a dark blue-grey. A grey crayon pressed hard works too.
