How to Draw a Tricorn Hat
Draw a tricorn hat in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the brim.
Step 1: The brim
Draw a wide brim: 2 soft hills on top with a V dip between them, and a big smile underneath.
Tip Make both side tips pointy and level with each other.
Step 2: Hat top
Start on the left hill. Draw a dome up over the dip and down to the right hill.
Tip Keep the dome low and round, like half a ball.
Step 3: Front fold
From the bottom of the V dip, draw a line straight down to the bottom of the brim.
Tip This fold is the third corner of the hat, pointing at you.
Step 4: Gold trim
On each side, start at the tip and draw a curve just inside the hill. Stop at the fold.
Tip Keep the band thin and even, like a ribbon.
Step 5: A rosette
On the left of the brim, below the trim, draw a round rosette with a bumpy edge.
Tip Eight little bumps make a neat rosette.
Step 6: Rosette button
Draw a small circle in the middle of the rosette for a button.
Step 7: Shadow
Under the hat, draw a long flat oval shadow. It hides behind the brim.
Step 8: Yellow trim
Colour the 2 trim bands along the top of the brim yellow. Colour the button yellow too.
Step 9: Red rosette
Colour the rosette red, around its yellow button.
Step 10: Dark hat
Colour the dome and the brim dark grey, around the rosette, and the shadow light grey. Hats off!
