How to Draw a Trench Coat
Draw a trench coat in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the long body.
Step 1: The long body
Draw a tall coat shape: a flat neck, sloping shoulders, and long sides flaring a little to a flat hem.
Tip A trench coat is long and belted with big lapels.
Step 2: Two big eyes
On the skirt of the coat, below the middle, draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a U smile, and a small flat oval cheek beside each end of the smile.
Step 4: Long sleeves
From each shoulder draw a long sleeve down past the middle of the coat, narrowing to a flat end.
Step 5: Wide lapels
From the neck draw 2 wide pointed lapels folding outwards. Their inside edges meet in a V on the chest.
Step 6: The collar
Start at the left of the neck. Draw the collar: up, dip in the middle, then down to the right.
Step 7: The belt
Across the waist draw a long flat belt with a square buckle in the middle and a short loop line.
Step 8: Buttons and cuffs
Draw 2 small buttons under each side of the V, and a cuff line across each sleeve end.
Step 9: Hanger and rail
Above the collar draw a hanger: a thin triangle, a line up, a hook curling left. Add a rail above.
Step 10: Sparkles
Draw a sparkle in the air at each side of the coat.
Step 11: Pink cheeks
Go over your lines, then colour the cheeks pink.
Step 12: Tan coat
Colour the coat and sleeves tan, around the cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Brown belt and lapels
Colour the collar, lapels, buttons, belt and buckle brown. Ready for a drizzly day!
