How to Draw a Pony Running
Draw a pony running in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: side-view head.
Step 1: Side-view head
Near the top left draw a head on a slope: a big round cheek and a smaller round nose.
Tip The nose end points down to the left. Leave room above for the ears.
Step 2: Eye and nose
Draw 1 big eye. From the nose top curve a line down to the chin. Add a nostril and smile.
Tip Give the eye a black dot and a tiny white shine. We see the side, so only 1 eye shows.
Step 3: Ears and forelock
On top of the head draw 2 leaf-shaped ears standing up. Sweep a tuft of hair forward between them.
Tip Draw a small leaf inside the near ear. The far ear peeks out behind the hair.
Step 4: Arched neck and back
Start behind the near ear. Draw an arched neck down to the back, along it, and stop round the bottom.
Tip The neck curves like a rainbow. The bottom is big and round.
Step 5: Flowing mane
Start behind the near ear. Draw a big mane flying back in 4 pointed waves. Stop on the back.
Tip Each wave points back, as if the wind blows it.
Step 6: Chest and front leg
From the cheek draw a round chest, then a leg reaching forward to a hoof and back to the body.
Tip The leg is wide at the shoulder and bends at the knee. Draw a line across it for the hoof.
Step 7: Tummy and back leg
From the front leg draw a round tummy. Then a leg kicking back to a hoof, up to the bottom.
Tip The back leg bends half way down. Draw a line across it for the hoof.
Step 8: Far legs
Under the tummy draw 2 more legs peeking out, with hooves. Draw a ground line under the back hooves.
Tip The front one is folded at the knee. Only draw the parts you can see.
Step 9: Flowing tail
From the bottom draw a thick tail flying out and curling down to a point. Add 1 hair line.
Tip Fat in the middle, thin at the tip.
Step 10: Peach nose
Go over your lines. Colour the nose end and the inside of the near ear peach.
Step 11: Cream coat
Colour the head, ears, neck, body and legs cream, around the peach. Leave the eye, hair and hooves white.
Step 12: Ginger and grey
Colour the forelock, mane and tail ginger. Colour the 4 hooves dark grey. Your running pony is done!
