How to Draw a Giants Causeway
Draw a giants causeway in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the tallest column.
Step 1: The tallest column
Top left, draw a flat 6-sided tile. Draw 2 long lines down from its side corners and join them.
Tip Thousands of stone columns, like giant honeycomb steps into the sea.
Step 2: Two more columns
To the right draw 2 more columns the same way, touching, each a step shorter than the last.
Step 3: Three more columns
Keep stepping down to the right: 3 more columns with 6-sided tops, all standing on the same level.
Step 4: Front edges
On the 3 tallest columns draw 2 lines from the front corners of the tile down to the bottom.
Tip Now each column has a wide front and 2 thin sides.
Step 5: More front edges
Do the same on the 3 shorter columns: 2 lines down from the front corners of each tile.
Step 6: The sea
Start at the left edge. Draw the sea line along the foot of the columns. Stop at the right edge.
Step 7: Waves
On the sea draw 4 short wavy lines, each starting on the left and stopping on the right.
Step 8: The sun
In the top right corner draw a round sun, about as big as a plum, with 8 short rays.
Step 9: Seagulls
In the sky draw 2 flying gulls, like flat Ms. Start on the left of each, stop on the right.
Step 10: Yellow sun, sandy tops
Colour the sun yellow and each 6-sided top a sandy colour.
Step 11: Grey fronts
Colour the wide front of every column light grey.
Step 12: Dark sides
Colour the 2 thin sides of every column dark grey, around the light fronts.
Step 13: Blue sea
Colour the sea blue, from the sea line down to the bottom edge. Your Giant's Causeway is done!
