How to Draw a Giant Otter

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a giant otter in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: wide flat head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Wide flat head

Up on the left, draw a wide head with a flattish top and round cheeks. Make it wider than tall.

Tip Leave room on the right for the long body and tail.

  2. Step 2: Big eyes

Above the middle of the head, draw 2 big round eyes. Add a black dot and a white shine.

  3. Step 3: Snout and smile

Draw a low wide oval snout with a black nose. From the nose draw down to a w smile.

  4. Step 4: Whiskers

From each side of the snout, draw 2 whiskers out across the cheek. Stop before the edge of the head.

  5. Step 5: Small round ears

On each side of the head, level with the eyes, draw a small round ear with a little oval inside.

  6. Step 6: Long bean body

From behind the right cheek, draw a long back, round the bottom, along the tummy and up to the chin.

Tip The body is longer than the head is wide.

  7. Step 7: Two legs

Draw a ground line. Under the chest and the bottom, draw 2 short legs with round paws and toe lines.

Tip Rub out the tummy line inside each leg.

  8. Step 8: Far legs

Draw 2 far legs peeking out: one behind the front leg, one in front of the back leg.

Tip Only draw the part you can see.

  9. Step 9: Flat paddle tail

From the back, draw a thick tail along the ground and back to the leg. Rub out the line inside.

Tip The tail is a thick flat paddle, nearly as long as the body.

  10. Step 10: Throat patch

On the chest, just below the head, draw a soft round patch. Keep it away from the edges.

  11. Step 11: Grass tuft

In front of the chest, start on the ground and draw 3 short grass blades up, stopping a finger up.

  12. Step 12: Ear insides and patch

Colour the ear insides peach and the throat patch cream.

  13. Step 13: Colour it brown

Go over your lines. Colour the snout tan, then the otter brown around the light parts. Keep the eyes white.
