How to Draw a Fish
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: eye and kissy lips.
Step 1: Eye and kissy lips
Left of the middle, draw 1 huge round eye. In front, draw puffy kissy lips like a sideways 3.
Tip Make the eye really big. Leave lots of room on the right.
Step 2: Fat egg body
From the lips, draw a rainbow over the eye, down to a short neck. Draw the belly the same way.
Tip A fat egg on its side: fattest round the eye, thin at the neck.
Step 3: Bow-tie tail
Across the neck, draw a short curve. From its ends, draw 2 lobes meeting at a dent. Add 2 rays.
Tip Make the top lobe a little bigger, like a bow tie.
Step 4: Top fin
Start on the back near the middle. Draw a tall sail leaning back, stopping further along. Add 2 rays.
Step 5: Gill
A finger behind the eye, draw a short C bowing toward the tail, not touching the back or belly.
Step 6: Side fin
Behind the gill, below the middle, draw a leaf fin lying flat, pointing at the tail. Add 2 rays.
Step 7: Belly fin
Start on the belly behind the side fin. Draw a small upside-down sail, stopping on the belly nearer the tail.
Step 8: Scales
Behind the gill, draw a row of 3 round U scales. Tuck 3 more under them, like roof tiles.
Tip Keep every U inside the body.
Step 9: Bubbles
In front of the lips, draw 3 bubbles floating up: small, bigger, biggest.
Step 10: Sand and seaweed
Draw a wavy sand line from edge to edge. Grow 3 seaweed blades from it, 2 left and 1 right.
Step 11: Yellow fins
Colour the tail and all 3 fins yellow, and the sand under the line sandy.
Step 12: Orange fish
Colour the body and lips orange, around the side fin. Leave the eye white.
Step 13: Blue bubbles, green seaweed
Colour the bubbles light blue and the seaweed green.
