How to Draw a Dragon Rider
Draw a dragon rider in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: dragon head.
Step 1: Dragon head
On the left draw a big head. Start at the back, go round the long snout, stop under the chin.
Tip Leave the back of the head open, the neck grows out of it.
Step 2: Eye and smile
Draw 1 big eye with a black dot and shine. Dot a nostril and curve a long smile.
Step 3: Two horns
On top of the head draw 2 curved horns, leaning back, each ending in a point.
Tip Each horn is fat at the head and thin at the tip.
Step 4: Back and tail
Start behind the head. Draw along the back to an arrow tail tip, then back under the tail. Stop.
Tip The neck dips down from the head, then the back runs almost flat.
Step 5: Neck and tummy
Start under the chin. Draw down the neck and round the tummy. Stop under the tail. Add a line inside.
Step 6: Four legs
Under the tummy hang a front leg and a bent back leg, 2 toes each. Peek 2 more legs behind.
Tip Each leg is wide at the top and narrow at the ankle. Rub out the tummy lines inside the back leg.
Step 7: Bat wing
From the back, sweep a tall wing up to a point, then scallop 3 curves down. Add 2 ribs.
Tip Both ribs start at the top corner and run to a pointy tip.
Step 8: Rider's head
Above the back, in front of the wing, draw a round head with hair, 2 dot eyes and a smile.
Step 9: Top and arm
Under the head draw the body. Draw a bent arm reaching forward, with a hand holding the neck.
Tip The body leans forward a little, the way the dragon is flying.
Step 10: Leg and shoe
From the body, draw a bent leg hanging down the dragon's side. Add a shoe pointing forward.
Tip The rider sits right on the dragon's back. Rub out the back line inside the leg.
Step 11: Yellow and peach
Go over your lines. Colour the horns, wing and tummy stripe yellow. Colour the face and hand peach.
Step 12: Green dragon
Colour the dragon's head, neck, body, legs and tail green. Leave the eye white.
Step 13: Red and blue
Colour the rider's top and sleeve red and the trousers blue.
Step 14: Brown hair, shoe
Colour the hair and the shoe brown. Hold on tight, your dragon rider is flying!
