How to Draw a Bird Pulling a Worm
Draw a bird pulling a worm in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Near the top, left of the middle, draw a round head, a little wider than tall.
Tip Leave room on the left for the worm.
Step 2: Beak pointing down
From the front of the head draw a pointed beak aiming down to the left. Add a mouth line.
Tip Start and stop the beak on the head.
Step 3: One big eye
Just behind the beak draw a big round eye with a black dot looking down at the beak.
Tip Leave a tiny white shine in the eye.
Step 4: Plump body
Start behind the head. Draw a fat egg leaning back, round the tummy and up to the chin.
Tip The bird pulls hard, so the egg tips to the right.
Step 5: Folded wing
From the back of the head draw a wing over the back to a point. Curve back up inside.
Tip Add 2 short feather lines. Rub out the body line inside the wing.
Step 6: Fan tail
From the bird's bottom draw a fan tail pointing down and back, with a round end and 2 feather lines.
Step 7: Planted feet
From the tummy draw 2 thin legs leaning forward. Give each foot 3 front toes and a tiny back toe.
Tip The feet push against the ground while the bird pulls.
Step 8: Ground and grass
Rule the ground under the toes. Add a small hill of soil on the left and a grass tuft.
Tip The grass tuft has 3 pointed blades.
Step 9: The worm
Draw a long thin worm stretched tight from the beak down into the soil hill. Add 3 ring lines.
Tip Keep the 2 sides of the worm the same distance apart.
Step 10: Yellow and pink
Colour the beak and the 2 legs yellow. Colour the worm pink.
Step 11: Orange tummy
Colour the tummy orange, from the chin down to the tail. Stop at the wing.
Step 12: Brown feathers
Colour the head, the wing, the tail and the soil hill brown. Leave the eye white.
Step 13: Green grass
Colour the grass tuft green. Your bird has caught its worm!
