How to Draw a Beetle
Draw a beetle in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Above the middle of your paper draw a dome for the head, flat at the bottom.
Tip A beetle's head is small: the big round shell is the star.
Step 2: Two antennae
Start on the head near the top. Draw a short curve up and out to a ball. Do both sides.
Tip The stalk stops when it touches the ball.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head draw 2 big egg eyes. Add big black dots with white specks.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Start under the left eye. Draw a line across to the right eye, with a wide U below. Add cheeks.
Step 5: The big shell
Start on the left cheek. Draw a big egg hanging down, wider than the head, stopping on the right cheek.
Tip The shell is bigger than the head. Its top hides behind the head.
Step 6: Shell lines
Start on the chin. Draw a line down the middle to the bottom. Add a curved line side to side.
Tip The line down the middle is what makes it a beetle.
Step 7: Front legs
Start under the curved line on each side. Draw a leg up and out, then down to a small foot.
Tip Each leg is fat where it leaves the shell and thin at the foot.
Step 8: Middle legs
A thumb lower on each side, draw a leg straight out, then bend it down to a small foot.
Step 9: Back legs
Low on each side of the shell, draw a leg down and out, bend it down to a small foot.
Step 10: Pink cheeks, red mouth
Colour the cheeks pink and the open mouth red. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Green shell, grey head
Colour the shell green. Colour the head, antenna balls and 6 legs dark grey, around the eyes, cheeks and mouth.
