How to Draw a Barge
Draw a barge in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the waves.
Step 1: The waves
Below the middle draw gentle wave bumps from the left edge across to the right. Add 4 ripple dashes below.
Tip Little hills, not spikes: about 14, all the same size.
Step 2: Flat hull
From the waves draw a long flat hull up, across, down to the waves. Add a rail near the top.
Tip Long, low and flat like a shoebox. Never draw the bottom: it's underwater.
Step 3: Porthole eyes
On the hull draw 2 big porthole eyes, one eye apart. Colour a pupil in each, leaving a sparkle.
Step 4: The smile
Start a little below the left eye and draw a wide U smile to a little below the right eye.
Step 5: Cargo boxes
Draw 3 square boxes in a row, starting and stopping on the hull top. Stack 2 more like bricks.
Tip Stack them like bricks: the top boxes sit over the cracks.
Step 6: Deck post
At the front, before the boxes, draw 1 short post: an upside-down U starting and stopping on the hull.
Step 7: The wheelhouse
Near the back draw a small box starting and stopping on the hull top. Add a wide pill window.
Step 8: Funnel and smoke
Start on the wheelhouse roof. Draw a short flared chimney up and back down to the roof. Add smoke puffs.
Step 9: Blue sea, rosy cheeks
Colour the sea blue from the waves down, leaving the smoke white. Dab a pink cheek beside each eye.
Step 10: Brown and tan boxes
Colour the 3 bottom boxes and the post brown, and the 2 top boxes tan, so the bricks show.
Step 11: Red hull, cream wheelhouse
Colour the hull red around the eyes and pink cheeks, leaving the eyes white. Colour the funnel red, wheelhouse cream.
