How to Draw a Woolly Bear Caterpillar
Draw a woolly bear caterpillar in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
On the left, a little above the middle, draw a big round head. Leave lots of room on the right.
Step 2: 2 antennae
Start on the head, left of the top. Draw a short curve up and stop. Add a ball. Repeat right.
Step 3: 2 big eyes
In the middle of the head draw 2 big eggy eyes. Add a black dot and white shine in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Start under the left eye. Draw a flat line to the right eye, then a U back. Add 2 cheeks.
Step 5: First 2 bumps
Start on the right of the head. Draw a round bump behind it, stop on the head. Add another.
Tip Each bump is a ball hiding behind the one in front.
Step 6: 3 more bumps
Start on the last bump. Draw 3 more bumps, each a bit smaller, and stop near the right edge.
Step 7: Tiny legs
Under each bump draw 2 tiny stubby legs. Start on the bump, go down, round a foot, back up.
Step 8: Fuzzy fringe
Over the head and every bump draw a row of little round puffs. Start each row where the last stops.
Step 9: A big leaf
Below the feet draw a long leaf with a point at each end. Leave a gap to each edge.
Tip Add one line down the middle of the leaf.
Step 10: Rusty middle, pink cheeks
Colour the 3 middle bumps and their puffs rusty ginger, and the cheeks pink.
Step 11: Green leaf, red mouth
Colour the leaf green up to the feet, and the mouth red.
Step 12: Dark grey ends
Colour the head around the face, end bumps, their puffs, legs and antenna balls dark grey. Leave the eyes white.
