How to Draw a Norwegian Elkhound

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a norwegian elkhound in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper, draw a big oval head, a little wider than tall. Make it big!

Tip The head is almost half the dog. Leave room below for the body.

  2. Step 2: Pointy ears

On each top corner of the head, draw a tall pointy ear leaning out. Add a smaller triangle inside.

Tip Elkhound ears stand straight up with a soft point.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

At the middle of the head, draw 2 egg eyes. Add a brown circle inside each, with a black dot.

  4. Step 4: Snout and nose

Under the eyes, draw a wide oval snout inside the head. Sit a black triangle nose on top, point down.

  5. Step 5: Smile and tongue

From the nose tip, draw a short line down into a little w. Hang a U tongue below its middle.

Tip The tongue pokes out below the oval. Rub out the line inside it.

  6. Step 6: The body

Start low on each cheek. Draw a big C down near the bottom. Join the ends with a saggy line.

Tip The body is a bit wider than the head.

  7. Step 7: Collar and tag

Under the chin, draw 2 sagging curves from the left side across to the right. Hang a small circle tag.

  8. Step 8: Front legs

From the collar, draw each leg down to a round paw and up to an arch under the tag.

Tip Add 2 toe lines per paw and rub out the body line inside.

  9. Step 9: Back paws

Draw a hill paw at each bottom corner of the body, with 2 toe lines. Add a ground line underneath.

  10. Step 10: Curly tail

Start low on the right side. Draw a thick tail that curls round tightly, like a snail shell.

Tip An elkhound's tail curls up tight. Make the tip tuck into the middle.

  11. Step 11: Cream chest

Colour the chest, the front legs and all 4 paws cream. Colour the tag yellow.

  12. Step 12: Grey coat

Colour the head, the body sides and the tail grey. Leave the eyes, ears, snout and collar white.

  13. Step 13: Dark ears and snout

Colour the 2 ears and the snout dark grey, going around the tongue.

Tip A dark face and ears make it an elkhound.

  14. Step 14: Tongue and collar

Colour the tongue pink and the collar blue, and your elkhound is done.
