How to Draw a Mole Cricket

16 steps · Tricky · about 12 min

Draw a mole cricket in 16 steps, about 12 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big helmet shield.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big helmet shield

In the middle, draw a big egg lying on its side for the hard helmet shield.

Tip A mole cricket wears a big hard shield behind its head.

  2. Step 2: Round head

Over the front of the shield, draw a round head. Rub out the shield line inside it.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

Above the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a black dot and white shine in each.

  4. Step 4: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes, draw a wide open smile like a half moon. Add a round cheek beside each corner.

  5. Step 5: Short feelers

Start on top of the head. Draw 2 short thin feelers curving up and forward.

Tip Mole crickets have short feelers because they live underground.

  6. Step 6: Long tummy

From the back of the shield, draw a long soft tummy out to a round end and back under it.

  7. Step 7: Folded wing

Start low on the back of the shield. Draw a long curve along the tummy and stop at the end.

Tip The wings lie folded flat along the back.

  8. Step 8: Tummy stripes

On the tummy, draw 3 short curves from the wing line down to the tummy line.

  9. Step 9: Shovel leg

From under the shield, draw a thick leg down under the chin, ending in a wide round shovel.

  10. Step 10: Four digging toes

Along the round end of the shovel, draw 4 small round toes. Rub out the line inside them.

Tip Mole crickets dig tunnels with these shovel paws, just like a mole.

  11. Step 11: Middle leg

Under the front of the tummy, draw a thin leg out to a knee, then down to a little foot.

  12. Step 12: Back leg

Under the middle of the tummy, draw a thicker leg back to a knee, then down to a foot.

  13. Step 13: Tail spikes

At the round end of the tummy, draw 2 short pointy spikes sticking out.

  14. Step 14: Ground line

Start behind the back foot and draw a straight ground line under the feet, past the paw.

  15. Step 15: Ginger legs and wing

Colour the cheeks pink. Colour the shovel leg, the thin legs, the tail spikes and the wing ginger.

  16. Step 16: Brown mole cricket

Colour the mouth red. Colour the head and body brown around the cheeks, mouth and wing. Leave the eyes white.
